A Successful Day at Lingfield Park

April 4, 2015 at 11:28 am

Everyone wanted to meet Smokey Oakey at our Bucket Collection Day at Lingfield Park yesterday- he was the star of the show!  Dame Judi Dench, our Patron, for whom Smokey Oakey raced for many seasons before retiring to us, came to see him and enjoyed the day’s racing. One of our most successful young riders, Adam Lester, came and gave a very good interview on the Racecourse TV. Showjumper Simon Blight, who is enjoying success as a para-equestrian, was also there with his family to support us.

We raised £800 from the Bucket Collection and £390 from a raffle of free bets on the last race, kindly donated by Wayne Monaghan, an on-course bookmaker.  The winner of the £100 bet was Mrs Sheridan with ticket no 77 who chose to back Hidden Gold, the second favourite, and Maggie Bloom won the £50 bet with ticket no 12, and backed the favourite, Anglophile.  Sadly neither horse won so they didn’t take home a fortune, but hopefully it gave them a bit more to shout about during the race.

We are very grateful to Lingfield Park Racecourse for again allowing us to hold a collection day.  The £1,190 boost to our funds will pay for nearly 50 riding sessions for 6 children each.
