Success at the Nationals despite the rain!

July 23, 2014 at 9:11 am

The RDA National Championships, held at Hartpury College from 18th -20th July 2014 were much enjoyed although some of the classes had to be cancelled due to heavy rain.

Simon Blight, our adult rider, won his dressage class and came third in the show jumping.  In the Countryside Challenge Emily Westergaard-Belcher took third place and Adam Lester took fifth place.

Unfortunately the Dressage and Combined were cancelled so Emily and Adam did not compete.

We congratulate all three riders on their success.

Fun Day 2014

Judi 2

Dame Judi Dench, our patron, attended fun day this year and was treated to an display of dressage and show jumping by our disabled rider Simon Blight on his beautifully turned out horses.

The children from St Stephen’s School, South Godstone, also gave a display of their riding skills and many of their parents attended to watch them.

It was a sunny day until the presentation of the annual awards when the rain came down in buckets!  Dame Judi bravely carried on and every child received a rosette, and various trophies were awarded to the best riders of the year.

A number of our supporters attended and Dame Judi presented Certificates of Appreciation, personally signed, to East Grinstead Lions Club, Eddie Ottewell, The Fox and Hounds, South Godstone and Graham Keetley.

There was then a special display for Dame Judi—her retired racehorse Smokey Oakey, who now lives at Little Brook, took a turn or two around the indoor school and was rewarded with a pack of polo mints!

Our Ascot-Style Race Night on  17th May was a huge success.  Over 170 people enjoyed an evening of dinner, music and racing at the Grand Hotel in Brighton.  Numerous raffle prizes were donated by local people and businesses, and a signed photo donated by Dame Judi Dench raided £700 in the auction.  Over £4,850 was raised.  Our thanks to all the attendees, sponsors, and supporters, and to Sarah Murrell and Eddie Ottewell who organised the evening.
